The Dr. Syed Arshad Abbas Memorial Trust is a voluntary family charitable organization established in loving memory of Dr. Syed Arshad Abbas — a man whose life was defined by compassion, humility, and an unwavering commitment to serving humanity. Founded in 2012 by his family under the chairmanship of Dr. Syed Abdul Majeed, the Trust carries forward Dr. Arshad Abbas's vision through initiatives in healthcare, education, and disaster relief.

Guided by a legacy of kindness and service, we are dedicated to bringing care, dignity, and hope to communities in need.

The night of 25 May 2011 remains forever etched in our hearts and minds. On that tragic night, Dr. Arshad Abbas lost his life when an air ambulance carrying him and six others crashed in Faridabad, Haryana, while travelling from Patna to Delhi with a critically ill patient on board.

His passing left an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, friends, colleagues, and the wider community. Tributes poured in from people across all walks of life — from ordinary citizens to distinguished dignitaries — reflecting the deep respect, admiration, and gratitude inspired by his deep commitment to serving humanity.

Born on 9 September 1976 into the respected and service-oriented family of Agha Syed Abbas Shah, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Arshad Abbas was the eldest son of Dr. Syed Abdul Majeed. For more than 315 years, the family has lived in Nowlari, a small hamlet in the Baramulla district of the Kashmir Valley, where generations have remained deeply committed to the values of compassion, community service, and social responsibility.

From an early age, Dr. Arshad Abbas demonstrated a gentle, compassionate, and selfless nature. As a child, he devoted his after-school hours and holidays to volunteering at the family medical clinic run by his father, Dr. Syed Abdul Majeed, and his uncle, Syed Maqsood Hussain. There, he assisted elderly patients and supported those in need with kindness and care. These early experiences shaped the values that would guide his enduring commitment and dedication to serving humanity.

He completed his schooling at Tyndale Biscoe School, one of the Kashmir Valley's most respected institutions, where he earned a reputation as a disciplined, punctual, and dedicated student — qualities that remained central throughout his life.

After earning his medical degree in Europe in 2006, Dr. Arshad Abbas chose to return home rather than pursue opportunities abroad. He began his medical career at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital, one of the Valley's leading government hospitals, while continuing voluntary service in his ancestral village of Nowlari.

Driven by a desire to provide better emergency care to his community, he specialized in Emergency Medicine. In 2009, he secured a training position at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, one of Asia's leading healthcare institutions. There, he developed advanced expertise in Emergency Medicine with the goal of bringing high-quality healthcare and medical knowledge back to underserved communities. His dedication to professional excellence also led him to pursue further studies recognized by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), United Kingdom.

Dr. Arshad Abbas was widely admired by colleagues and patients alike for his quiet professionalism, clinical skill, and compassionate approach to care. His philosophy of "treatment with compassion" became the hallmark of his medical practice, earning him immense respect and affection.

Deeply guided by Islamic values, Dr. Arshad Abbas drew inspiration from the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Ahlul Bait (AS). He remained closely connected to his faith and community traditions, particularly during Muharram, when he devoted himself to supporting spiritual gatherings at his ancestral Azakhana.

Even after his passing, people continued to visit the family home to honor the memory of a man who dedicated his life to serving others. His father, Dr. Syed Abdul Majeed, continued offering free medical consultations to underprivileged patients through the family clinic in Nowlari.

In 2012, the family formally established the Dr. Syed Arshad Abbas Memorial Trust to preserve and continue his mission of compassionate service. As Dr. Syed Abdul Majeed expressed, the Trust would stand as "a tribute to Dr. Syed Arshad Abbas and his humble desire to provide the best possible health services to the community at large."

Today, the Trust continues to honor Dr. Arshad Abbas's legacy by advancing meaningful programs in healthcare, education, and humanitarian relief. Through every initiative, we strive to uphold the values he lived by — compassion, service, dignity, and hope — ensuring that his vision continues to inspire and benefit future generations.
